Universal Music Group has settled its copyright lawsuit with AI music platform Udio and entered into strategic licensing agreements covering recordings and publishing. The settlement includes compensation and a plan to launch in 2026 a licensed, subscription-based AI music creation, streaming, and sharing service trained on authorised music. Udio’s current product will remain available within a walled garden during the transition. UMG notes similar AI-related agreements with YouTube, TikTok, Meta, BandLab, and others, indicating a broader shift toward licensed AI music ecosystems.
